Having to be at practice at 5pm is a little challenging with rush hour traffic. I was a minute late, which is pretty late since it takes quite a bit of time to get all your gear on. I will be early from now on, because I missed a minute of warm up skate time. In my rush to leave the house I forgot my camera, so no pics this round. Sorry.
I have been pretty sore from Tuesdays practice. Yoga & the treadmill have been great activities to loosen up my tight muscles. I had a busy day today and sneaked in hitting the treadmill between appointments. I needed it, and my body was glad I did it.
We have one main trainer and then a few other assistant trainers. The main trainer is an amazing skater. She skates so effortlessly. Only one assistant was the same as last time. Everyone was still super nice, but I really liked the girls I met Tuesday.
Last time I had difficulty skating with my right foot which is weird because it’s my dominant foot. I talked to some of the pro skaters and they told me they would show me how to loosen my wheels after practice. I forgot and left, so this time when I had issues again I asked a different pro skater if she could help me out. It turned out that my wheels were fine, but my truck on my right skate was a little loose. She said she wasn’t good at trucks and asked another girl to help out. She tightened my truck, and ohhh man what a difference. I was skating faster and with more ease, it was wonderful. I cannot wait until we do the skate clinic so I know how to take care of my own skates.
We did more falling drills today and I had to bow out at a certain point again, but this time I didn’t feel so bad about it. If I have to skip 1-2 drills during practice out of all the drills we do, then that’s not so bad. I had a new temporary mouth guard this time & it was so much better. I could talk through it pretty easily, and it didn’t really bother me. This mouth guard only cost me $3, I can only imagine that my incoming custom $45 one will be a billion times better.
I’ve been happy that I haven’t fallen so far, but that ended today 3 minutes before the end of practice. We were practicing turning and stopping (known as a turn around stop) and I tried doing it with the foot that I am not good at turning on and fell on my butt. The head trainer skated over and said “you only had 3 minutes to go! I know I’ve been pushing you guys pretty hard today, it’s okay.” They are just so supportive, I can’t stop saying that.
That’s all for day two.
